Eyeballs

Last Friday I had a follow up eye dr. appointment. He had me on eye drops several times a day for a couple of months, and wanted to see if it was working. When we first discovered about my eye condition, I had photographs taken regularly to see the changes. The photos showed what they call Macular Edema, which is a swelling with fluid in the eye. I’ve attached two photos to show what I’m talking about.

In the center you’ll see a dark spot with a cluster of white dots in it…that’s the fluid that we constantly monitor. Those “puss pockets” as they were described to me once affect how you see, if you have them the vision can be blurry, and if you don’t it is clear. When we first started treating them, it was through steroid injections in the eyeball..yikes I know, I certainly didn’t care for that method, but at the time it was the only way, at least that I know of! Now, for the last few months, we’ve been treating them with eye drops!! It’s amazing how treatments have developed. The good news is that the drops are working. I used to have a trace of fluid in my left eye, and that is now gone, and I had an area of concern in my right eye that is now just a trace! The bad news is that I could be on eye drops forever, since history would tell me that when I don’t do anything at all, the edema comes back. All in all it was a good appointment. I go back in a couple of weeks to do another field vision test (to check the pheriphial vision), and then follow up with him in about 4 months!
